HISTORY OF PEMF

There are many theories and very little agreement as to exactly how magnetic fields effect human health. It’s a question as complicated as the human body itself, concerning dozens of organs and thousands of different molecules.

Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field therapy is currently in wide use across Europe. While it is newer to North America, this emerging technology is backed by an extensive research base. Many benefits of PEMF therapy have been demonstrated through more than 2,000 University level double-blind medical studies done in many countries with many different PEMF therapy devices.

Although scientific experiments and theories began forming far earlier, during the 1800's, most of the discoveries relating electricity to magnetism were made by the early pioneers of our modern technical world by men such as Gauss, Weber, Faraday and Maxwell.

As far back as 1890, the American Electro-Therapeutic Association conducted annual conferences on the therapeutic use of electricity and electrical devices by physicians on ailing patients.

Serbian-American physicist and inventor Nicola Tesla (1856-1943) first observed the effects of electromagnetic fields on cells. Tesla is best known for his plasma energy work starting around the turn of the century. Tesla observed that cells respond favorably to energy.  Tesla’s famous quote:  “If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” The original Tesla energy devices were commonly used in hospitals until the 1950’s. They were successful in treating a wide range of conditions.

While the positive effects of PEMF therapy were well established by the mid 1900’s, the first commercially-produced high power PEMF therapy devices only entered the market around 1975. They focused on the health of muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments and cartilage, on reducing pain and on cellular regeneration.
